Creating Segments

Segments have been created to help divide your contacts into different sections ie grouping of contacts defined by a set of conditions.

Unlike tags, segment grow as people meet the segment conditions and reduce when people are no longer align with the conditions. It updates in real-time.

  • Inactive subscribers who have been on your list but has never clicked or opened an email.
  • Customers from integrated accounts like shopify who purchase products.

Understanding Sendmunk Conditions

Sendmunk has multiple range of filters such as

  • Name
  • Email
  • Subscription Date
  • Tag
  • Segment
  • Country
  • Clickers
  • Non - clickers
  • Custom Attributes
  • Openers
  • Non - openers
  • Shopify- Revenue
  • Shopify -  Checkout
  • Shopify -  Orders
  • Shopify - Cart

You can use this information to create segments as you acquire more information about your contacts. For example, If you collect data on age from a profile you'll be able to segment by age.

After selecting your filter the next step is to select the property of which the filter will depend on.

Here are the operators available:

  • Equal to
  • Not equal to
  • Contains  (the property contains the filter specified)
  • Starts with  (ie the property starts with the filter specified)
  • Ends with   (ie the property ends with with the filter specified)

The dimension value is the final piece after selecting a filter and an operator. When you click, a dropdown menu will appear in this value field, listing all potential values for the property, operator, and data type you selected.

If the property you've chosen has integers or dates as values, make sure the data type is set appropriately. As a result, type-specific operators will be shown, affecting the values accessible for segmentation.

How to create specific filters with conditions:

To create a segment that contains specific Tags

This condition can be used to identify people with a specific tag named "team members".

This is useful if you would like to exclude these contacts from a particular segment to comply with just the tag named.

To create a segment that contains Non-clickers

This is mostly used to track down contact that are dormant amongst your list, which can be based on a specific campaign or in general. This also gives you the ability to specify the date you want it to be tracked from giving you the total number included in the filter.

When segmenting based on whether or not someone is in a list, you can filter based on when that person was added to the list:

  • between (two relative dates)
  • before (a specific date)
  • after (a specific date)

To create a segment that contains specific Names

This condition can be used to identify people with a specific names/letters.

This is useful if you would like to exclude these contacts from a particular segment to comply with just the name.

Using the "AND" or "OR" condition

This two conditions perform different tasks from each other.

The "AND" condition simply combines two types of filter together to give it a final result.

The "OR" condition gives a condition that means the end result should choose from either of the filters provided to give it a final result.

If you want to combine two or more lists, configure a segment to include everyone in these lists using this condition once for each list, using an "OR" connector to separate each condition.

Once a new condition is added always update the recipient count to get the accurate number of subscribers.
